Cool‐season golf course fairway species irrigation requirements under limited irrigation

چکیده
Improving water conservation efforts for golf course turf is a constant industry goal. While creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.; CBG) the preferred fairway species throughout most of cool-humid regions, requirements alternative cool-season with better acute drought tolerance at mowing heights (e.g., <0.5 inch) are not well documented. A 2-yr field study compared two irrigation strategies (80% reference evapotranspiration, ETo, replacement or green cover threshold, GCT, response-based approach) 60-d summer period six grown under fixed roof rainout structure on silt-loam soil. For GCT approach, plots were imaged three times per week and if plot fell below 55 65% in 2017 2018, respectively, predetermined amount was added. The 80% ETo received total 8.63 8.26 inches respectively. By contrast, strategy required substantially less which varied by year. Among species, turf-type tall fescue [Festuca arundinacea Schreb.; syn. Schedonorus arundinaceus (Schreb.) Dumort., nom. cons.] Mid-Atlantic type Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) approximately 45 52% to CBG Where paramount, planting more tolerant cultivars employing like can result significant savings.

Mediterranean irrigation under climate change: more efficient irrigation needed to compensate for increases in irrigation water requirements
Irrigation in the Mediterranean is of vital importance for food security, employment and economic development. This study systematically assesses how climate change and increases in atmospheric CO2 concentrations may affect irrigation requirements in the Mediterranean region by 2080–2090. Future demographic change and technological improvements in irrigation systems are taken into account, as i...
متن کاملMicrobiological quality of reclaimed water used for golf courses' irrigation.
Microbial quality of reclaimed water used for irrigation in two golf courses located in the southern Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) was evaluated. Bacterial indicators for faecal pollution (total and faecal coliforms, Escherichia coli and enterococci) were tested by membrane filtration using appropriate selective media. In addition, somatic E. coli bacteriophages, enteric viruses (enter...
متن کاملFairway Grasses for Midwest Golf Courses
Kentucky bluegrass can produce quality fairways in the Midwest if it is not mowed too short. Keep track of research. Climates vary widely across the Midwest, complicating the choice of fairway turf grass species. New epidemics of gray leaf spot have weakened the popularity of perennial ryegrass, long a preferred fairway species in many parts of the Midwest. Cultivars are available that accentua...
متن کاملCultivar Mixture Cropping Increased Water Use Efficiency in Winter Wheat under Limited Irrigation Conditions
The effects of cultivar mixture cropping on yield, biomass, and water use efficiency (WUE) in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were investigated under non-irrigation (W0, no irrigation during growth stage), one time irrigation (W1, irrigation applied at stem elongation) and two times irrigation (W2, irrigation applied at stem elongation and anthesis) conditions. Nearly 90% of cultivar mixtur...
متن کاملGround-based Remote Sensing of Corn Evapotranspiration under Limited Irrigation Practices
Ground-based remotely sensed data were used in two major approaches to estimate crop coefficient and evapotranspiration (ET) over two treatments of limited-irrigation corn in northeastern Colorado. The first approach, known as the reflectance-based crop coefficient, takes advantage of the unique relationship between crop coefficients (Kc) and vegetation indices of agricultural crops. The second...
